英语选择题一道 为什么不要定冠词the？

我认为是要填the 的。

再从语法角度来想，按照定冠词的用法，“用于序数词前”，这里关键不是什么日期时间，century，而是那个“19th”，它是序数词，所以在它前面会有the。
（关于时间）不用定冠词的情况，有
①通常不用于季节、月份、星期等名词前，例如in winter。
②节假日,三餐前通常不用加the,但是festival 前要加the。例如have lunch,on National Day,the Spring Festival.
P.S.:@@@eve(前夕) 后面有of 短语时，eve前面要加定冠词。例如on the eve of National Day.
综上所述，我认为要加the.

因为叙述词19th，因此前面加了the；
其实这句句子也可以是the 19th century's western art.
但整句句子强调了western art，也为避免头重脚轻之嫌，采用of语句倒置词序，使句子优美些
